heh. I wonder if it was civil servants checking up on what the people think about the minister. I'm sure they've got stories to tell too.

Great, another open source weanie...

No offense CC, but often the cost of maintaining Unix nerds far outweighs the benefits of "Open Source" at times...
I've heard "sure we can get this to work if we use "x", "y" and "z", recompile the binaries and add these packages that have not been supported since '98 and do a little voodoo dance, sacrifice chickens and raise my salary"....
I kind of prefer using the best adapted tool for the job.... Just saying.

At 800x600, none the less. If I listen close, I think I can hear the whine of the 14" CRT.

Cherniak, you sound like you have a particular case in mind. Wanna share it?

Well if you must know, all those computers were ordered by the previous Liberal government. They were likely ordered in 1999 to ensure their bioses would rollover to 2000 01 01. With such future proofed hardware, they only did OS upgrades from W98 to XP in the six years after.

When the CPC took power, they saw no need to upgrade machines for the flunkies working in the civil service. Upgrading office computers is simply not sexy. Besides, all the CPC apparatchik keep the sexy machines (like Xbox, playstation) at home. And they're not sexy just because of the hardware you know.

Could've been worse - could've been IE6.
