Heads, I win; tails, why don't you just piss off, OK?

Shorter Canadian conservatives: "The fact that Stephen Harper recently assured us that everything was perfectly fine, and that we are now bailing out Canadian mortgage holders to the tune of $25 billion only proves that we were right all along."

You only wish I was kidding.

P.S. I blame the Liberals.

JESUS CHRIST, I WAS JOKING
. The above was clearly over-the-top satire, and yet, God help us all, here's Stephen the Putrescent:

... Mr. Harper said the [$25 billion] backstop demonstrates the Tories are taking steps to fix things.

“It shows we act in advance to deal with issues. We do not wait for the point at which we are in crisis.”

What is left to parody?

Ahem ...

Adscam. Boondoggle. Gun Registry. Fuddle duddle.

P.S. It's like trying to reason with a 3-year-old hopped up on too much sugar and not enough sleep. To be completely honest, your chances are better with the hopped-up toddler.

It seemed a little odd that the $700 Billion amount of the US bailout is about the same as the cost of the Iraq war.

Now we see the $25 Billion amount of the Canadian bailout is about the same as the cost of the Afghan war (they said $18B and noting they can't get all the figures, said it is likely considerably higher).

A Lib government would do pretty much the same thing. Lib and Con - both are parties of the business class, putting the concerns of capital ahead of those of labour.
