Because Canadians generally won't vote for shrieking loons, that's why.

In which Canada's fetus-fetishiest fetus fetishist learns that, when you're trying to win an election, you really need to stop talking like a crazy person. At least temporarily.

I'm surpised none of them have rationalized "Hey, wait, he didn't say he absolutely, positively won't allow the definition of marriage to be re-opened, so give Harper a majority and it's GUARANTEED the scourge of 'gay' 'marriage' will be at an end."

It's so funny when these morality crusaders come to the realization that they too, are no more than fodder for the power hungry filth that they call their hero when he gives them a bone. Agreed, reality, marriage equality is toast under a Harper Majority. They can't wait to stick it to the LGBT community. Then they'll stick it to the "christians" when they won't get be able to put their noses in the snatches of the many teens who get abortions out of the shame that religious bullshit bestows upon them.

"...If you are conservative don't vote Conservative..."

Sounds good to me.

"One of the first rules of politics is to tend to your base."

And Harper is doing exactly that -- tending to his base -- which is the majority of voters, he hopes. He wants, anyway.

And the majority of voters are pro-choice, don't think abortion is murder, and think reproductive rights and decisions belong solely to the one person who has to do all the bloody work: the woman!

And the majority of voters are equally pro-choice on the topic of falling in love, choosing your sexual partners, whether or not to get married, and with whom (and how many) you form your marriage contract.

Harper has finally figured out that his base is the leave-'em-alone majority of people who really don't give a damn what their neighbors are up to, so long as nobody is being hurt. And "offended" is not being hurt.

Can those anti-choice misogynistic homophobes even read? Or count? Do they not know that they're in the minority and fading fast?

Maybe so, but the unborn don't vote.
