Bravo Senator Dallaire!

Senator Romeo Dallaire, retired General, is a man of honour. And he is not impressed with the behaviour of Canada and the United States when it comes to handling Omar Khadr.

Canada and the United States have sunk to the moral equivalent of terrorists in their handling of a young Canadian held at Guantanamo Bay, says Liberal senator and ex-general Romeo Dallaire.

Dallaire says the two countries have flouted human rights and international conventions in dealing with Omar Khadr and are no better than those who don't believe in rights at all.

He told a House of Commons committee Tuesday that Khadr is a victim -- a child soldier who should be rehabilitated and reintegrated into society and not tried before what he called an illegal court.

Hey Sandy! Sandy, over here, another accomplishment for your list. Fear not, the previous liberal government was no better and no more adamant about bringing the young Khadr home. In fact, the milquetoast party under the leadership of soft, wet Monsieur Dion were only too ready to roll over and present their hind quarters to the dominant shadow of our mighty neighbours.

Liberal Leader Stephane Dion said he disagreed with Dallaire's choice of words, and hinted the senator could be disciplined.

"This is a matter to deal with the (party) whip, and we'll deal with that,'' Dion told reporters.

The party whip? Why that would be Karen Redman, my very own MP who has yet to respond to even one of the several queries or comments I have sent to her. I mean gosh, even Steve Harper's office has responded to a note I sent regarding copyright reform, as has Jim Prentice though both notes were form letter bullshit, at least they were something. And Jack Layton's office even went to the trouble of responding to a letter I wrote by addressing the points I had highlighted. Good heavens the socialists actually read my letter. The Bloc, a bilingual form letter. My MP, not a peep.

Heaven forbid that the Liberals actually exhibit anything resembling courage, honesty, integrity or intestinal fortitude. They might as well just declare themselves the enabling wing of of the Stephen Harper Party. After all, two national parties that specialize in dissembling, ethical lapses, sneakiness and disregard for the rule of law are not better than one. Thank Jeeziz that the members of the Senate, Canada's last bastion of political integrity, have the courage of their convictions.

It is not Her Majesty's Official Opposition that is examining legislation, hell, even reading legislation. It is not Dion's caucus that is holding the blossoming corruption of our minority government to account. It is the Senate. It is Romeo Dallaire, it is Senator Hervieux-Payette and their colleagues in the much beleaguered upper house. They are the ones threatening to send C-10 back to committee and putting sniveling twats like Flaherty on notice that they actually do understand the constitution and won't be snowed by bluster and bullshit.

My hat is off to Senator Dallaire for his courage past and present. Long may we benefit from his continued courage and integrity.

This happens more often than most people realize: the Senate is sometimes the only actual opposition in Ottawa. That's the real reason so many politicos despite it.

IMO Dallaire did really well against that little fuck Kenney.

Now if more Liberals could do the same, I'd even consider supporting them again. Instead we get Dion snivelling...

WTF, Dion? Dallaire has a hell of a lot of courage, and he's right. Dion wants to soften the language? That's just another accommodation, empty words. Dallaire is right - it's wrong, it's a violation of human rights, it's torture and abuse of children used as soldiers. All of those are things we condemn terrorists for, so there is no case for soft language here.

Some more recent headlines indicate that Dallaire subsequently "recanted" but then they go on to quote him and sure enough - he didn't.
