Whiny reasoning: The Blogging Tory chronicles.

Perhaps the most amusing part of Kate McMillan's recent brain-damaged (and thoroughly unfunny) screed in the National Post are the following two positions of hers:

  • We whine too much, and

  • Canada is currently short on reason and logic:

"Traits essential to the building of nations and preservation of democracies -- reason, resolve, creativity, self-reliance, common sense -- are no longer holding their own against the tide of the emotive, reactionary, self-obsessed and risk averse."

And what better test of all of that could there be than a recent push to have municipal councils across Ontario stop saying the Lord's Prayer? Let's see how the rational and unwhiny Blogging Tories react, shall we? And I'm guessing we need look no further than one Ruth, who leads off the piteously whiny conga line:

Secular Ontario

No, I am not referring to the moral state of my home province.
In fact, I am referring to the advocacy group that believes it is within its rights to enforce secular practices on everyone.

Um ... what? And how exactly does one draw that bizarre conclusion? One suspects that there are numerous wanks who have never set foot in a municipal council meeting now bitching about how this is an intolerable affront to their right to religious freedom. The fact that it makes not one iota of difference to their lives will not, of course, keep them from whining plaintively about this devastating attack on Christian freedoms and values and ... and ... well, you get the point, so let's move on to more stupid, shall we?

When "Secular Ontario" points out that opening council meetings with the Lord's Prayer is in fact a violation of Ontario Law, Ruth now descends fully and completely into whiny madness:

When you have groups like Secular Ontario out there, depriving people of their right to pray, enforcing their secular "morality" on everyone, it's a wonder more people don't get angry.

Uh ... "depriving people of their right to pray?" And how exactly does that work again? Once again, I'm guessing that some of the biggest pissers and moaners over this are people who've never been to their town council meeting in their lives, but it doesn't stop them from going all full-metal religious martyr and nailing themselves to a large piece of wood. And that's also missing the point.

Why are these meetings opening with a Lord's Prayer in the first place? If these people want to pray, let them do it elsewhere. Council meetings are for taxpayer-funded municipal business, one would think. So as long as these people are being paid by the public, let them do their (secular) job.

Sadly, this logic is utterly lost on airheads like Ruth and (not surprisingly) another of Canada's stupidest bloggers, Joanne (True Blue):

Well said, Ruth!

At which point the diseased minds of the Canadian idiotsphere truly show what they're made of:

A word to you, it's because of people like you that the Canadian society of today is becomming [sic] extinct. We keep letting imbeciles and refugees who supposedly would be harmed in their own country stay here, live here and in most cases we even take them in and support them financially as well.

Enough is enough , you don't like our paryers [sic], our traditions, our way of doing things then I say get the hell back where you came from and do there what you want.

Quite right: Because if we stop mindlessly, monotonously and tediously repeating the Lord's Prayer, the terrorists will have won. And then they'll follow us home. Or something like that.

Canada's conservatives: Because ... because ... um ... you know, there's just no snazzy punchline that would do this justice. They're all just fucking retards.

AFTERSNARK
: Have you ever noticed that the right-wing dipshits who bitch about others enforcing their secular morality on them will never, ever, ever refer to what they're doing as enforcing their Christian morality on people?

The obvious analogy is utterly and completely lost on them. That's because they're fucking retards. Oh, wait ... I already mentioned that, didn't I?

She really is a horrible writer. You didn't expect me to read the whole thing, right? Good.

Who's the real whiner, Kate?

If you can stomach it, you should check out the whining in the London Free Press online letters section. What a bunch of christianists. And they seem to believe that there is a hidden agenda being pushed by these humanists (horrors!) and civil liberties groups (gahh!). London is full of teh stupid today. Well, pretty much everyday.
