In the interests of fairness, Blogging Tory Raphael Alexander should be along shortly to caution us against rushing to judgment until all the facts are in. Or something like that.
BONUS SNARK: Dave points out that handing over prisoners to known torturers is, in fact, a war crime. So let me be the first to suggest that, as a first step in getting rid of the loons running things in Ottawa right now, I want to see the people at the top who knew this was happening to be charged with war crimes.
No, I'm not joking.
I want someone who has some background in this area to describe the initial steps in bringing Stephen Harper, Peter MacKay and the rest of those lying bastards to The Hague, and charging them, and throwing their sorry asses in prison.
And, once again, I'm not joking. How do we start?

Oh, c'mon, Red. At least try to indulge in the concept of fundamental justice to energise you against the forces of authoritarianism and bleak capitulation. I've found it to be an effective non-chemical, non-religious deterrent against depression and nihilism.

This is the same as the American people expecting George "Bunnypants" Bush to be held responsible for his war crimes after a Democrat takes office in 2009. Won't happen, sorry.
There's usually an upside to that, though. Burdened by their crimes and never having to face justice, they descend into madness...Nixon, Reagan, Thatcher, Mulroney. And Chimpy has been 3/4 of the way there since at least 9/11, so it wouldn't take much.
Harper and Junior McKay are so brittle and fragile they'd go into fugue states in the House if anyone were to mention the Ottawa Tulip Festival at this point.

Don't let me rain on your parade. I just can't see the Liberals buying into such an initiative. Personally, I think they're already trying the patience of many people by pursuing the detainee issue so relentlessly. But hey, that's just my opinion.

What else should they should be doing on this dossier? We're being constantly bombarded with accusations that we're not supporting the nobility of a project to democratise a chaotic nation and what we're seeing is evidence that we're not just ignoring, but enabling some pretty unpalatable abuses of justice by the regime to which we're providing moral and legal legitimacy.
I want the Harpies to stop lying. If they can't or won't do that, they should go. Get the Liberals in there and let them start lying, because at least you get the sense that they know lying is wrong.
Please allow me to express my gratitude for the good humor and generosity of the Canadian people.
Maybe the governor did personally participate in the interviews of prisoners of war. Little Steve didn't sit on this intelligence to please some provincial governor in Afghanistan. He sat on this to prove his mettle and to avoid criticizing his Dear Leader.

What else should they should be doing on this dossier?
I'd like to see more questions raised about the nature of the overall "nation-building" exercise in Afghanistan rather than focusing obsessively on this one particular issue. Personally, I think they're ignoring the bigger picture. Of course, that would be complicated and perhaps impolitic, so I doubt they'll do that either. But that would be my preference.
The real reason that Libs here, and Dems there don't pursue war crimes trials is because they're up to their necks in the shit as well.
