1, 2, 3... What Are We Fighting For?

Wired is reporting on the arrest and death sentence of a young Afghani journalism student. His crime, downloading and distributing a paper that criticizes Islamic fundamentalists for misrepresenting the Koran to justify the ongoing and systemic abuse of women. Someone ratted on him and he was tried by sharia courts before being sentenced to death for the crime of blasphemy. He was allowed no legal representation or assistance.

Thanks be to all that is right and just that we and our allies are in a position to render aid to this courageous young man. After all, isn't that just the sort of thing that Canadian and NATO soldiers are fighting and dying to prevent? Surely the Karzai government will intervene, after all, democracy and, um, freedom and stuff!

The Afghan Senate passed a motion this week supporting the sentence, according to the British newspaper The Independent.
Other journalists have been warned that they would be arrested if they protested in support of Kambaksh.

Victory!

First, I'd like to know where the Blogging Tories are on this issue.

I believe you'll find them in the back yard saluting themselves and defending the world from islamoflapdabbery. One lonely, cheese stained keyboard at a time.
